Time for a National Food Policy

On November 7th, an op-ed was published asking present Obama to sign an executive order to mandate Food for All.

Please join CAMPAIGN for Food Justice NOW! and Growing Food and Justice for All Initiative (GFJI) for a call to discuss a community based response from the food justice community.

Monday, November 24th at 1pm (central time)
Dial-in: 1-857-232-0158
Conference code: 991353

The Op-ed lays out key ideas for an Executive Order:

“All Americans have access to healthful food;

Farm policies are designed to support our public health and
environmental objectives;

Our food supply is free of toxic bacteria, chemicals and drugs;

Production and marketing of our food are done transparently;

The food industry pays a fair wage to those it employs; Food marketing sets children up for healthful lives by instilling in them a habit of eating real food;

Animals are treated with compassion and attention to their well-being;

The food system’s carbon footprint is reduced, and the amount of carbon sequestered on farmland is increased;

The food system is sufficiently resilient to withstand the effects of climate change."

This is an idea whose time has come.

Much of what we all hope to achieve with in our individual community based work is encapsulated in these statements.

There is one exception - public policy is not race, class or gender neutral. Many of us know that without specifically making the effort to include those that are most impacted by the food system policies will support practices that continues to marginalize our communities.

We NEED a National Food Policy for ALL.  To achieve this important goal, we must organize nationally, across the food movement, to encourage President Obama to sign the National Food For All Policy by Executive  Order.

Please join the call to strategize to achieve this important milestone.
